Oil on board

In a field looking through branches of hazel catkins near Bulmer, Howardian Hills. Plein air oil painting.

I only got over to the area in the afternoon; there was some nice sunlight earlier but by the time I settled down it was more overcast. The exercise of finding a scene is one where I was driving about and heading off down some trails to see what I could find. What id like to do is do more of a long hike and stop to paint.

Very autumnal - I’m pleased with this after a month since the last. Had surgery 4 weeks ago so very pleased to be out and about again. I had started an abstract painting at home and it’s been a bit of a disaster so nice to see some progress here. Gives me confidence to keep going.

I found this trail after I saw some locals walking this path so not knowing the area I took off that way. With light as dull as it was the hazel bush caught my eye.
